This video was developed as a short training on how to create an exit ticket in google forms. While I am a preschool special education teacher and do not find myself needing this type of assessment for the students I serve, I have heard other teachers in the building talk about having trouble finding different ways to quickly and easily assess what their students have learned that day in class. Our county is also in the process of switching over to Google and many teachers are not familiar with the different ways they can use Google to help them in the classroom. With this in mind, I took my daughter's 2nd grade review sheet on magnets and started working on this video. Class modules gave great instruction and examples of screencasting that were very helpful to reference while creating this video. I ran into technical problems with the volume of my microphone and had to adjust settings in different programs on different computers to get volume levels even in all pieces of the video. At first, I tried to narrate the screencast as I was creating it. I found that this was not conducive for a smooth screencast or a smooth narrative. I then, decided to create the screencast and then record the narrative. This worked much better.
ISTE Standards supported by this Instructional Handout include:
Standard 3 (a, c, f, g): This video can be used as a choice for online professional development that instructs teachers on how to use and maximize a technology tool available to them and their students. It shows them how to use a digital tool that is compatible with the "school technology infrastructure." Use of this tool allows the students to communicate to the teachers what they have learned through the completion of the online exit ticket.
Standard 4 (a, b): An informal needs assessment of my peers led to my creation of this video. Informal assessment of students, like the exit ticket, are recommended to help teachers gauge how students are learning and how instruction be presented next.
Standard 5 (b): Resources used in this project were clearly cited, a model of appropriate use of items created by others.
Standard 6 (a, b, c): As part of the coursework for LTLE 570 to complete the certification in educational technology this project along with the draft/peer review/final/portfolio process allows me to continue to deepen my knowledge and understanding of "technological areas" and the cooresponding professional standards.
