This poster was created to be used in an early childhood special education classroom to help students analyze their morning job of putting away their backpacks. Most students who will be using this poster are non readers, so the pictures are important. A spotlight filter was used to help bring their attention to the action they should be concentrating on at each step in the process. Presenting the poster vertically allowed for all of the steps to fit on the page to be read from the top down. I originally took the pictures vertically as well. When I got feedback back on the poster, it was stated that with the pictures oriented in that way the pictures were too small to see well when they were the proper size to fit in the boxes. By retaking the pictures orienting them horizontally, I could use bigger images.
ISTE Standards supported by this Instructional Handout include:
2 (d): By using this teacher generated, low-tech task analysis the student is learning how to problem solve when they can not remember what the next step is in the process of unpacking their backpack. In learning to use this poster, students are also self regulating their behavior to successfully complete this morning task.
3 (b): In creating this poster, I have modeled the use of technology to create a resource to be used in their learning environment.
5 (b): In using images that I created, I have modeled the use of original work to create learning resources in the classroom.
Standard 6 (a, b, c): As part of the coursework for LTLE 570 to complete the certification in educational technology this project along with the draft/peer review/final/portfolio process allows me to continue to deepen my knowledge and understanding of "technological areas" and the cooresponding professional standards.
