I created this instructional handout to help people access the voiceover capabilties on their Mac running OS X10.6.8. Screen shots were created to help users clearly see what they were looking for as they navigated their way to the voiceover option. At first I had the instruction boxes in green, but after getting feedback that they did not contrast enough against the blue in the screen shots, I changed them to red. Each step is numbered and read right to left from the top of the page to the bottom of the page so the flow of the directions are intuitive and easy to follow. From information in the module and discussion in class I knew that I did not want those using this handout to be overwhelmed by the instructions, so they are concise and, where helpful, include images as well.
ISTE Standards supported by this Instructional Handout include:
Standard 1 (a): This handout supports learners who have learning disabilties and/or have visual impairments. It adapts the computer to better meet the needs of the learner. It supports teachers and students in the "implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students" discussed in standard 1 a.
Standard 3 (d): As stated above, this handout helps teachers access a built in function of the computer which allows the teacher to adapt the way the computer functions for the needs of a student with a visual impairment to support that student in their learning while they are using the computer.
Standard 5 (b): Resources used in this project were clearly cited, a model of appropriate use of items created by others.
Standard 6 (a, b, c): As part of the coursework for LTLE 570 to complete the certification in educational technology this project along with the draft/peer review/final/portfolio process allows me to continue to deepen my knowledge and understanding of "technological areas" and the cooresponding professional standards.
