This instructional design plan was created as the culmination of a semester long project. In this project, I worked with a client to develop a proposal and create a design plan for a series of training modules intended to teach elementary school teachers to use the SAMR model as they work to integrate technology into their instruction in meaningful ways. Each component of the instructional design plan was carefully thought out for the needs of the school I created the series of modules for. Case studies and discussions throughout the school year helped guide the process which included surveying the intended learners, looking closely at the media and programs available, consulting a subject matter expert (SME), and researching the SAMR model to create a quality instructional product for my client.
ISTE Standards supported by this Instructional Design Plan include:
1. (a,b, d): This project was created to help the transition of elementary teachers to the use of 1:1 device which is a county wide initiative. These training modules help support a shared vision in the county the school is a part of. The topic of the modules, the SAMR model, works to help teachers plan in a way that infuses technology into their instruction using higher level thinking. This design plan lays out the plan to implement this training over the course of a school year as the teachers are transitioning to additional technology resources in their classroom.
2. (a, b, d, f, h): The use of a program that is available to all of the teachers as well as the technology tools that the teachers will have available to them models for the teachers different ways this technology and application can be used in their classroom. The modules are intended to help teachers take a closer look at the instruction they are already giving students through the lenses of the SAMR model to create opportunities for their students to use technology in ways that invoke higher level thinking.
4. (a, b): A survey of the teachers at the elementary school was conducted in order to most appropriately develop this training series. The instruction designed in this assignment is professional development geared towards elementary teachers. Assessment on teacher knowledge of the information has been built into the design of these instructional modules.
